About MarianneB Van Der Haar
Music and color are the inspirational forms that help me create my expressive art. I am MarianneB Van Der Haar, and I picked up my first acrylic paint set in 2000 when, after a career in interior design, I found my love of bringing layers upon layers of paint and mixed media together to compose my works. I am purely self-taught: over the years, my art supply cabinet has expanded to include not only acrylics, but materials such as ink, sand, copper powder, marble powder, firewood ashes, and textiles.
My artistic style ranges from pure abstract to pieces that are flowers and figures, evoking emotions of what I see in the world, what I feel in my environment, and how I sense the seasons. I am particularly known for my color flow, but every time I work with my tools of choice—whether they are brushes, plastic cards, scrapers, palate knives, or my simply my fingers—the result is a new artistic surprise.
In addition to creating paintings for display in homes and galleries, I also share my love of art by teaching personalized, small-group art classes for both adults and children at my home studio.

Statement
Artist MarianneB Van Der Haar uses a combination of synthesis and spirit to create mixed media paintings that explore the concepts of color, flow, and balance. She begins with patterns and adds on the dynamic movement of paint and texture to create an energetic and sensual spatial flow. Both layered and poetic, her work explores a spectrum of emotions with its bold, powerful color on one hand, and soft, warm, monochromatic whites on the other. Her experiences living and traveling in countries around the world, including Africa and Thailand, also help inform her work, and her passion for the diversity of people and stories – mixed with an eye for color and balance from her background in interior design – help her express the profound insights she finds in the cross-cultural experience.
